Music and Worship
We appreciate having a thriving Worship Group with worship leaders, singers and musicians.
Regular instruments include:
- piano
- flute
- guitar
We make use of music and songs from a wide range of sources. At our Sunday morning services the words are projected onto a screen in the worship area. The words of most songs are also available in printed books. At our Sunday morning service we usually have copies of very large print words for those who need them. We subscribe to the Church Copyright Licence Scheme to allow us to use in-house printed and projected song words.
Refurbishment and extension of the building a few years ago provided a new worship area:
What is worship?
It includes singing hymns and songs in worship to God but it is more than that.
The English word 'worship' has the root meaning of giving worth to. We do this when we sing praise to God. We do it better when we obey God in every part of our lives; when everything we do is in response to God's great love for each of us.
Romans 12:1 (NIV):
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Amos 5:21 (NIV):
I hate, I despise your religious feasts,
I cannot stand your assemblies.
Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings,
I will not accept them.
Though you bring choice fellowship offerings,
I will have no regard for them.
Away with the noise of your songs!
I will not listen to the music of your harps.
But let justice roll on like a river,
righteousness like a never-failing stream!
Colossians 3:12-17 (NRSV):
As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
