Sunday service

We usually have a Sunday morning service starting at 10.30am.

The timing is different on the second Sunday of each month when we start with light refreshments from 10am followed by a short service at 10.45am. See our page about Second Sunday at Main Street Community Church for more information.

There is also a page with information about pastoral services such as weddings, funerals and child dedications.

What happens in a Sunday service?

We sing and pray together as an act of worship to God.

At times we like to be joyful and thankful for our experience of God. At other times we like to be quiet and reflective.

Our services are informal and we use today’s language.

Each service is different, our style is relaxed and we encourage people to be themselves.

Sunday Morning Talks

Except on the second Sunday of the month we usually listen to a speaker explaining what the bible says about an aspect of Christian faith.

Recordings of some past talks

Some Sunday morning talks are available as MP3 or Ogg Vorbis downloads, together with text transcripts or outlines.

Getting the best from the talks

We have tips and advice on getting the best from a Bible message.

We have a Facebook page to encourage participation in Main Street Community Church Bible study through our Sunday morning services. Join us by reading the week’s Bible passage and watching for weekly “thought provokers”.

Songs

In the service, all our songs are sung from the screen at the front of the church. If you prefer, please pick up a song book from the steward on your way in. This has most of the songs we use. We often stand to sing but if you prefer to sit, please do!

The Offering or Collection

We do not expect visitors to contribute to the offering so please just pass the bag on, unless you want to give to the work here in which case … great! When the offering is brought to the front we usually give thanks to God.

Prayer

There are people from the church who are available to pray with you for a few minutes at the end of each service. If you have a particular need and would value prayer, please speak to one of the leadership team. We provide other opportunities for prayer

Holy Communion

On the first and third Sunday of the month we usually share communion. The exact style varies but all those who seek to love and serve the Lord Jesus are welcome to join with us in this part of the service. If you do not want to join in this part of the service, that’s fine, you are most welcome to join in with the rest of the service.

Refreshments

At the end of the Sunday morning service we have tea and coffee together in the church hall. You are welcome to stay and chat with us. There is no charge.

As mentioned above, on the second Sunday of each month tea, coffee and rolls are served from 10am. Again, there is no charge.

On the fifth Sunday of each month we are experimenting with having a shared meal after the service. This is usually in the church hall.

More information

Details of additional meetings and services are published in a weekly notice sheet.
