Frodsham: Replaced Councils 2009

On April 1 2009 Cheshire County Council and Vale Royal District Council will be replaced by Cheshire West and Chester Unitary Local Authority for the local government of Frodsham and Helsby.

Cheshire County Council, Frodsham and Helsby Division

Most of Cheshire is administered by Cheshire County Council. This Council will be abolished at the end of March 2009.

The Northwest Region Economic Strategy Draft, put online by Cheshire County Council Environmental Planning Service, is a useful source of background information and possible future directions for the region. The County Council provides many services, including the fire service.

The District of Vale Royal

is administered by the Vale Royal Borough Council, Wyvern House, The Drumber, Winsford, Cheshire, CW7 1AH (telephone 01606 862862). This council will be abolished at the end of March 2009.

Vale Royal Borough elections were held every four years.

Following the election on 3rd May 2007 the constitution of the council is: Conservative 27, Labour 17, Liberal Democrat 10 with one election for 3 seats still to be held (total 57).

After the 1st May 2003 elections it had been: Conservative 22, Labour 21, Liberal Democrat 12, Independent 2. This had replaced a council elected in 1999 whose constitution had been: Labour 32, Conservative 16, Lib-Dem 8 and one vacancy.

The Borough Council provides many local services to the population of about 115,000.
